Ableton LiveĪbleton Live is a bit of an outlier on our list because it’s not a DJ programme – or at least it wasn’t designed to be one. In the guise of the Traktor Scratch update, a digital vinyl system is also available. Traktor features pretty much everything a modern DJ is likely to need, including great Sample Decks, Remix Decks, and Loop Recorder, as well as high-quality effects and sophisticated rhythm and key analysis algorithms.

I still like to play vinyl sets which I still can but boy, running Traktor and Ableton together and have full tweakability without even looking a one screen and running four decks with Traktors excellent looping and EFX section + all you want from Ableton makes you forget vinyl in the blink of an eye.Īlso very small setup, laptop, 2 X1's and the iPad. Since Touchable I don't need to look at Ableton for even one second ! My iPad is using Touchable as a controller for Ableton and I'm planning to use the X1's on deck A and B and eventually a second one on deck C (right now I'm using a Nocturn).Īnyway, this leaves for FAAAAR more options and creativity within Ableton than using the Bridge. And all outputs to my external 4 channel mixer.

Master Audio of Ableton is then routed to Deck D in Traktor. Midi clock is internally send to Ableton and Ableton is listening to Traktor (and it works flawless !). The way my setup works now is normal 3 (not 4) deck usage of Traktor with Deck D as external audio.

You also loose a deck to Ableton !! It depends a lot on the style you play and in Traktor you loose the Ableton overview but I don't miss it one second since it's a little mess anyway. On the other side, getting the Bridge to have a nice steady solid clock was a pain! in the ass and Traktor beats the hell out of that. I play vinyl as well as 'all digital' sets and for pure vinyl sets Serato is a bit easier (especially the colored waveform). There are just A LOT MORE options and tweaks in the program possible even not mentioning the recording options, broadcasting, midi controller setup, internal mixing, specific controller mayhem like the X1's, Xone's, faderfoxes, it depends a bit on your gear you use now or like to use in the future. I used Serato since the day it came out and I used the Bridge but I went to Traktor instead recently.
